Jazz + Movie Concert - Sunday, April 27th!
Main Feature: The Man with the Movie Camera
Short Subject: A Great Train Robbery
Go to the movies with the Dudley House Big Band. This amazing group of musicians will play live a jazzy and brand new soundtrack to "The Man with a Movie Camera." Dziga Vertov's 1929 masterpiece pulses with a boundless energy, and the virtuoso performance of camera and editing techniques will only be matched by the awesome involvement of the musicians. The new score has been co-composed by Jean-François Charles and Nicolas Sidoroff.
The first part of the concert features "The Great Train Robbery," Edwin S. Porter's milestone. This short subject was the first narrative film in history. A jazz combo will play Nicolas Sidoroff's original soundtrack live!
Sunday, April 27th. 8 pm.
Paine Hall, Harvard Music Department.
$5 - Tickets available at Dudley House, 3rd floor, or at the door of the concert.

Special guest Nicolas Sidoroff - composer, arranger, trumpeter
His musical tastes tend to explore precarious balances between the whirling freedom of punk-rock-jazzy improvisations and the more ascetic austerity of a continuous work. He cultivates the place and the moment where energy and sound combine in the meeting of rock and new music.
He became seriously interested at the age of 18 after the discovery of Miles Davis and Duke Ellington, which leads to a path between street and institution. On the one hand, many and various artistic projects, notably Miss Goulash (since 2000: 8 musicians to play and create with all their influences, trying out collective compositions and improvisations in every available context) and the Compagnie AlbaTros (since 2002: "nouveau cirque" in duet, creation of a juggled piece for two actors, a trumpet, nine clubs and a scarecrow). And also, "compositions and arrangements on request" for record and stage: horn / brass section, song for children, jazz orchestra... On the other hand, l'Ecole Nationale de Musique de Villeurbanne, until 2005: starting with the jazz arrangement class, then all the activities of this school, ranging from the Zappa workshop to the completion of trumpet study in classical music and Fred Frith's residence.
For a long time attracted by "collective making" and music teaching through this angle, he leads in France since 2003 operations combining school and concert place, about the links between writing / composition and improvisation: CIM (Bar-le-Duc), Chaufferie (Grenoble), "le chantier musical" in the Festival "Gare aux Oreilles", a.o.
He holds a "DE Musiques Actuelles" (State Certification for teaching Contemporary Music) from Cefedem Rhône-Alpes, 2005.
