The Absence of Atmosphere

 

60 styrofoam balls with text of poem painted on the surface by hand. Metal wires and three wood sticks. To read the poem one must walk through and around the installation and follow the color coded words which form a line of poetry. There are six lines of poetry in the 3-d interactive visual poem.

 

Nick Carbo is the author of three critically acclaimed books of poetry El Grupo McDonalds (1995), Secret Asian Man (2000), and Andalusian Dawn (2004). His awards include fellowships in poetry from the National Endowment for the Arts and the New York Foundation for the Arts. His poems have also been featured in the PBS television show “Heritage” and in National Public Radio’s show “Intersections.” He is currently teaching as Visiting Poet in the MFA program at the University of Miami.
