Dudley Arts 4/15-4/30

HAPPY EASTER! HAPPY PASSOVER!!

it's thesis time so we'll give you the lowdown in one chunk.

INDIAN ARTS WORKSHOPS PLACES ARE AVAILABLE FROM MONDAY 4/17!!

Ever wanted to learn how to do Henna tattoos? glass painting? how about tie-dye? As part of the Harvard Arts Festival, Arts First, 5/4-5/7, artist, activist, and Mason Fellow Kiran Soni Gupta will be teaching classes on all these things! We have 3 types of classes and 4 slots, places are limited so reserve your place at the Dudley House Office! All are welcome, but only those located at the Longwood Campus can phone in to reserve their place. Everybody else: rush up to the 3rd floor!

5/4 3.30-5.30 Kiran Soni Gupta will be making colourful patterns in sand in the foyer of Dudley House as a display for arts first. Come see her and learn about the traditional art of Rangoli! (free)

5/5 11am- 1pm Glass Painting, I. GSL

Beautiful images that catch the light! On 5/5, 5/6 & 5/7 Ms Gupta will be teaching three sessions of a class painting course. Participants must come to all three sessions, after which they will have completed a piece of beatiful glass art work to take home. The cost of the course is $15 for three sessions!

5/5 1-2.30pm, Henna, GSL

Following the first session of her glass painting course, Kiran Gupta will be doing the first of two workshops on henna tattoo in the GSL from 1-2.30pm. Learn how to make stunning patterns on skin for a dazzling effect from simple to ornate and try it yourself! Cost: $10 per session.

5/6 11am-1pm Tie Dye Workshop, Private Dining Room

Ms. Gupta is doing a special session to teach the art of tie-dye on Saturday 5/6. All participants will leave with a piece of their own work. Cost: $15

5/6 5.30-7.30, Glass Painting II, GSL

5/7 11am-1pm, Glass Painting, III, GSL 5/7

1-2.30pm, Henna, GSL The same Henna Tattoo workshop offered again for those not able to make the Friday session. Cost: $10.

EXHIBITIONS:

We're very excited about our Art's First "artist in residence" Kiran Soni Gupta's exhibition "India: Life in Color" which opens on 5/3 at 7.30pm. You can read more details in the calender section.

NEW EXHIBITION:

In the Flesh: Paintings by Danielle De Feo will be appearing in the Gato Rojo Cafe over the weekend of 4/22-23. Word is some of the paintings are going to be so fresh that they'll still be wet, but they won't be by the time the closing party rolls around on 5/26! Enjoy the show, and be at the party or be square as square can be.

ALL MONTH, adorning the walls of the graduate student lounge and mezzanine will be a truly astounding collection of colorful photos documenting your travels from around the world for all to see. Come add your name and title to your photo or just stop by to learn about the places your peers have been! Where did you go?

  • LINKS section is now new and improved(!) featuring links to the websites of more of the Artists featured in past exhibitions at Dudley and links to www.citysquares.com, an easy to use guide to what's happening in the lively squares of Boston and environs...a must for those not familiar with the area. We also have a new link to the site of Boston Art Party.com, an exciting monthly event that is invitation only and provides a place for the creative minded (invited guests only...check it out to get on the list) to mix and mingle with local artists, film-makers etc, snack and socialize
