Dudley House Arts Fellows 2007-2008

Eva Helfenstein

Hi, my name is Eva, and I’m a 3rd year Graduate student in History of Art and Architecture. This year, I’m again an Arts Fellow at Dudley House and I’m looking forward to sharing my passions and interests with you!

In my working life here at Harvard, I do research on European Medieval and Renaissance art, for example on the city of Rome, late medieval tableware and treasuries. As I love working with original art, I spend a lot of time traveling in Europe, visiting churches, museums and sometimes my family in Switzerland.

As Dudley Arts Fellow, I would like to travel with you, both in reality and in mind: Many of my events will take place outside of Dudley House, often in one of the wonderful museums in Cambridge or Boston. For an hour or so, you will have the chance to travel with me through time and space, from Ancient Egypt to 19th century Cambridge over to Renaissance Italy. During the cold and dark months, we will extend our connoisseurship into another sphere by tasting wines and freshly imported Swiss chocolate.

I am looking forward to meeting all of you soon!

If you have questions or remarks, please contact me at helfenst@fas.harvard.edu.

Cristina Plamadeala

This year, I will be combining the art of drinking tea with music and literature. I will be organizing a new event “Tea Break at Gato Rojo” where students can enjoy free tea, sweets and music played by other Harvard GSAS students.

When I was as child, I would spend numerous hours practicing piano.  My mother would listen for hours, while drinking her tea.  Maybe that’s where my love for tea and music came— in those moments when she would listen to me playing while savoring her cup of tea.  The “Tea Break at Gato Rojo” will try to provide for students an opportunity to do the same. Hope you can come and listen other GSAS students perform.

I will be also screening some films and possibly organizing a presentation on a topic I am very passionate about—orphans and underprivileged children in Eastern Europe. Speaking of Eastern Europe, I am from Moldova. I grew up there, and then moved to US to attend high school, college, and now graduate school. At Harvard, I study Russian politics and history.

Di Yin Lu

Di Yin Lu is a G2 in the History department, where she ruminates over China and all the countries that fiddle about with China.  When she is not thinking about the Far East, she reminisces wistfully about the years she spent in California, and eats ice cream.  She believes that the world would be a more delightful place if all its denizens could get home delivery from Herrell's, Lizzy's, and Christina's.

As the assistant dance fellow, she will bring oodles of dance films, dance lessons and otherwise dance-related events to Dudley.  Please join her!  All her events will include snacks - including the aforementioned ice cream.
