"Zanzibar: Photographs by Joanna Lipper"
Joanna Lipper, Filmmaker, Sea Wall Entertainment

Joanna Lipper is an author and filmmaker. She runs Sea Wall Entertainment, a company dedicated to the research, development and production of books and films.  Joanna Lipper's nationally acclaimed book on teen parents Growing Up Fast was published by Picador in 2003. Ms. Lipper's public appearances include lectures on a range of issues relating to psychology, sociology and film.

As a fellow in residence for academic years 2008-2010 Joanna Lipper will be developing a feature film adaptation of Roger King's novel, "A Girl From Zanzibar" which tells the story of Marcella, a young woman of mixed race who emigrates from Zanzibar to London in the 1980's and gets caught in the web of a massive global banking scandal. After spending time in prison Marcella emigrates again--this time to the United States to teach Multicultural Studies at a small college.

Spanish Immersion Through the Arts

Habla
Learn Spanish and experience the Yucatan this winter at Habla's unique immersion program!

Habla's innovative language approach gives you real experiences with language. At Habla you will never work through a textbook chapter-by-chapter and fill out an endless series of worksheets. You will tell stories and create your own original writing in Spanish while learning about the literature, photography, and visual art forms of Mexican culture. Learn Spanish by working with our team of experienced teachers in a supportive classroom setting in Habla's unique Spanish courses through the arts.

In addition to your Spanish classes, explore Yucatan from the ancient Mayan ruins of Uxmal to the vibrant arts and cultural scene of Merida. In Habla's Spanish immersion programs you will learn how to cook Yucatecan food, see screenings of Mexican films in a cinema, and learn about the historical and cultural aspects of the Yucatan Peninsula. You can choose to live with a Mexican family to experience the rhythm of Yucatecan life.
