Tamsin Jones joined the Committee on the Study of Religion in July 2008 as the Director of Undergraduate Studies and Lecturer on Religion. She teaches in the history of Christian thought, with a focus on modern and postmodern theology and philosophy of religion. Her most recent research centers around the confluence of the ‘turn to religion’ in contemporary continental philosophy with its emphasis on ‘negative theology’ or apophasis, and retrieval of Late Antique Greek and Christian writings. She explores themes of excess, alterity, violence and desire in religious experience, as well as the impact of the limits of language and knowledge in a phenomenological analysis of religion. The titles of her courses include, “An Introduction to Christian Thought,” “Existentialism and Religion,” and “The ‘Death of God’?: Modern and Postmodern Responses to Religion”. She also teaches the Sophomore Tutorial in the Study of Religion.
