i. International Risk Researcher ii. Katie Hayes iii. I would like to develop an on-line risk assessment tool that would provide different statistics for someone interested in making investments or learning about a particular country. iv. My project will consist of an interactive website that displays a list of regions and countries in the world. The name of each country will be a link to its data, and each country page will include a map of the country, political makeup, population, top industries, top resources, average age, etc. I would also like to incorporate a Google web services tool that would allow the user to monitor news for their selected region or country. A comparison tool would allow the user to select several different countries/regions, and compare their data side by side. I also think it would be interesting to provide the feature of displaying the most frequently viewed countries or regions. A last possible thing to include would be the ability for the viewer to enter an email address and have the information that he or she is looking at emailed to them or a friend. v. I have chosen this project because I have an interest in international development and find the search for different statistics that represent the political, social and economic climates of different places challenging. It will give users quick access to a collection of data that is usually spread across many different sources. vi. This project will resemble the infrastructure of the previous homeworks - primarily a combination of java servlets and xsl stylesheets, and will most likely require the inclusion of several different xml documents. I will need to learn about web services, wsdl, soap and also how to send emails via a servlet to a destination email. vii. One of my concerns is not being able to find the appropriate data in XML format, which makes me wonder about the process and feasibility of converting tab-delimited data into XML. Also, not having done any research into it yet, I am not quite sure what technologies to use for the email aspect of the projec or how to go about it.
