Niall Ferguson (Harvard University)

Niall Ferguson is the Laurence A. Tisch Professor of History at Harvard University, where he holds a joint appointment in the History Department and the Business School. He has published works on nineteenth- and twentieth-century European political and financial history, including the prize-winning The World's Banker: The History of the House of Rothschild (Weidenfeld and Nicolson, 1998), the best-selling The Pity of War (Penguin Press, 1998), and the talked-about Colossus: The Rise and Fall of the American Empire. He maintains a special interest in German history, but his recent work has ranged widely to include the British Empire, the role of the United States in the world, and global capital. His research continues to focus on nineteenth- and twentieth-century international history, with an emphasis on economic development and financial institutions.
