Carter Eckert (Harvard University)


Carter Eckert is the Yoon Se Young Professor of Korean History at Harvard University and the Director of the Korea Institute. He specializes in late 19th and early 20th century Korean socioeconomic history, including historical aspects of Korean economic development. Among his numerous publications are Korea Old and New: A History and Offspring of Empire: The Ko-ch'ang Kims and the Colonial Origins of Korean Capitalism, 1876-1945, which won the John King Fairbank Award in 1992 from the American Historical Association.
