Charles Bright (University of Michigan)
Charles Bright is Professor of History at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. He is the author of The Powers that Punish: Prison and Politics in the Era of the "Big House", 1920-1955 (University of Michigan Press, 1996), which examines the politics of American prisons, and is also the co-editor of Statemaking and Social Movements: Essays in History and Theory (University of Michigan Press, 1984). His research interests include both the United States and world history. In regard to the latter interest he has coauthored with Michael Geyer several articles on global topics, and the two are currently working on a world history that will soon be published.
