David Armitage (Harvard University)
David Armitage is a Professor of History at Harvard University and previously taught at Columbia University where he was the James R. Barker Chair of Contemporary Civilization. His research interests include the history of political thought, the history of the British Empire before 1800, the history of the Atlantic World, and the history of international law. He is the author of The Ideological Origins of the British Empire (Cambridge University press, 2000) and is the editor of several books about the British Atlantic World, including one of that title. His current projects include a global history of the American Declaration of Independence and a study of the foundations of modern international thought.
