David Elmer received his PhD from Harvard's Department of Comparative Literature in 2005. In addition to his position in the Department of the Classics, he also holds an appointment as a Junior Fellow in the Harvard Society of Fellows. His current research topics include Homer and the ancient novel. He is also deeply interested in the comparative study of oral traditions, and has served as Assistant Curator of the Milman Parry Collection of Oral Literature since 2000. He is currently working on a book about consensus and collective decision-making in the Iliad.
