How do I create Chinese PDF files with

Acrobat Writer?

First, make sure that you have Adobe Acrobat 4.0 or later version. Before your installation ,check your system to make sure it meets the minimum system requirements:

Mac OS Requirements

-- Apple Power Macintosh or compatible computer with Power PC processor.
-- Mac OS 7.1.2 or later
-- 4.5 MB of RAM
-- 8 MB of available hard drive space for installation
-- CD-ROM drive Recommendations
-- 6.5 MB of RAM
-- 50 MB additional hard drive space for Asian fonts

Windows Requirements

-- Intel 486 or Pentium processor computer
-- Microsoft Windows 95, Windows 98, or Windows NT 4.0 with Service Pack 3 or later
-- 8 MB of RAM (Windows 95 and Windows 98) or 16 MB of RAM (Windows NT) -- 10 MB of available hard drive space for installation
-- CD-ROM drive Recommendations
-- 16 MB of RAM (Windows 95 and Windows 98)
-- 24 MB of RAM (Windows NT)
-- 50 MB additional hard drive space for Asian fonts UNIX Requirements

At the time of installation, make sure that you choose custom installation and select the Asian support option, otherwise, you won't be able to create files in Chinese. According to Adobe's menu, in Windows, you should use Distiller to create PDF files from documents with Asian test on any system as long as you have the Asian language files installed, but you cannot use PDFWriter to create these files unless you are on a native language system. This is a little confusing. I really don't know how one could create Chinese Files without ever using any Chinese system, even if with add-on systems. So, in other words, if you do have Pwin, Cwin, Cstar, Richwin, etc, you will be able to create Chinese files with PDFwriter for Roman systems without any problem. That is what I have always been doing actually. However, in order to display what you created, you still have to go to Adobe's web site, to get the Chinese font packs (Win or Mac) needed.

Once the installation is done, you may create your Chinese files with MS word. Note that Acrobat 4.0 is not compatible with Word 2000. So you have to use either word 7 for win95 or word 98. Since at the moment of installation, Acrobat is integrated with your word automatically, you can just type in Chinese characters into your word document and save it as Pdf files. View your product with Acrobat Reader with Asian font pack installed. Good Luck!
