End User Agreement
As a condition of access to this data, you hereby agree to the following terms and
conditions.
(1)
The institutions contributing data to this project are:
- Center for Historical Geography, Fudan University (Shanghai, China) [CHG]
- CHGIS, Harvard Yenching Institute [CHGIS-HYI]
- Russian Academy of Science, Institute of Geography [RAS]
(2) You, the end user, will obtain the data only from stored media or by direct download
from authorized server(s) maintained by the Management Committee, the
contributing institutions, or affiliated institutions approved by the
Management Committee.
Currently available for academic use from:

CHGIS Center for Historical Geography, Fudan University
You
will not attempt to aquire the data from or provide the data to any third party.
(3) Access to, and use of, these data is restricted to non-commercial use for
academic research and educational purposes. Commercial use requires a separate CHGIS Commercial Data License, which may be obtained only from the Management Committee.
(4) If your primary residence or the primary place of use of the data is within the People's Republic of China, use of the data requires permission of Center for Historical Geography, Fudan University, Shanghai.
(5) Academic use of CHGIS data is allowed, and encouraged, provided that any derived data or digital images of maps give proper citation to CHGIS as stated below:

The CHGIS datasets are distributed for non-commercial academic research purposes only. Any organization or individual that makes commercial or revenue generating use of the CHGIS Datasets must first obtain a licensing agreement from CHGIS Management Committee. Acceptance of this agreement acknowledges understanding of this liability by the end-user.
End-users who obtain CHGIS data by providing false information, or by any other unofficial means, will be held accountable to the terms of this License Agreement, a copy of which is included in each archived dataset.
(6) You may use portions of the new data in any new work or publication of your own,
including text or images, but in your publications you must:
- follow normal scholarly practices and conventions for attributing the source of the CHGIS Data as specified above.
- clearly and prominently identify what parts of your work incorporate the CHGIS Data and
how they have been used, and
- clearly and prominently identify all changes you made to the CHGIS Data and when you
made them.
(7) You may not incorporate the entirety of this CHGIS Data in a work of your own, whether modified or not, without the express permission of the Management Committee in
a separate License Agreement. No commercial use or repackaging of this dataset is allowed, in any form. Redistribution of CHGIS datasets in electronic media format, or by downloadable distribution over the Internet is not allowed, except under written agreement with CHGIS Management Committee.
(8) While every reasonable effort has been made to insure the accuracy of the data,
neither the Management Committee nor any contributing institution can guarantee
its accuracy or its suitability for any specific purpose. Use of the data is entirely your
responsibility.
(9) Your download and/or use of the CHGIS Data under any circumstances implies your
acceptance of this License and all of its conditions.
