The Friends of Harvard Celtic Studies was organized by us in 1993 to provide the community with the opportunity to support and to participate in the numerous innovative programs and activities of Harvard's Celtic Department. The response from the community has been overwhelming, and we are pleased to say that a new era has dawned for the Celtic cultures in our area.

Friends of Harvard Celtic Studies gather periodically for evenings of good cheer and cultural entertainment. Recent evenings have featured superb performances of traditional Irish music, a demonstration of ancient Scottish music, a reading by Seamus Heaney, and the unique work of Belfast artist Ross Wilson. Celtic Studies chair Professor Pat Ford is always on hand to brief us on current activities in the department and to share with us his visions for broadening the study of the Celtic cultures in this country. If you haven't already joined the Friends, we invite you to take this opportunity to do so. If you are already a member, we're sure you'll want to pass this on to a friend.

Friends' support has already done much to promote the dissemination of Celtic cultures through Harvard's Celtic Studies Program. We continue to focus our efforts on developing programs such as:

  • Stipends for students attending intensive language courses in Ireland,
       Scotland, Wales, and Brittany
  • Honoraria for visiting artists and scholars
  • Travel support for students attending conferences or workshops devoted
       to Celtic cultures
  • Programs that will assist middle and high school teachers to introduce
Celtic literature and history to their students
  • Publications relating to research in the Celtic cultures

  • If you have questions about our Friends organization or our upcoming programs, please call us at (617) 496-6305. Your support of the only Celtic Studies Program in the United States is important to all of us. We look forward to seeing you at the next gathering of the Friends of Harvard Celtic Studies.
