Human Capital and Economic Growth

The Human Capital and Economic Growth Working Group, led by Matthew Jukes of the Graduate School of Education, brings together scholars from the Departments of Economics and Social Sciences in the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, the Kennedy School of Government and the Graduate School of Education. Members of this group conduct research examining education and health in developing countries, immigration, globalization, political participation and sustainable development.

The Working Group hosts the African Research Seminar which presents current research on the continent and is chaired by Matthew Jukes and Nahomi Ichino of the Department of Government. The seminar, which is jointly sponsored by the Committee on African Studies and the Weatherhead Center for International Affairs, examines education and economic and political development in Sub-Saharan Africa with a focus on the post-independence period. It invites scholars from education and the social sciences to present ongoing research three to four times a semester, with a general discussion following the presentation. The seminars are open to the public. The schedule for the Africa Research Seminar will be posted in the calendar section of this website.
