The purpose of the grant is to afford all students the opportunity to take part in a significant international experience, regardless of financial constraints. A significant international experience (SIE) includes cultural immersion, and linguistic immersion whenever feasible and appropriate for the student’s goals and the location of the program or project (language preparation may be a pre-requisite). Dean’s Summer Research Awards (Student Employment Office)
The Dean's Summer Research Awards give rising seniors who receive financial aid the opportunity to devote the summer to thesis research. The awards provide students who have already received an HCRP grant with an additional grant to cover the summer savings requirement of their financial aid packages. Students living abroad have no savings requirement and are not eligible for this program (this does not include Canadians who do have a savings requirement). If a student has other awards from outside sources that exceed the amount of the summer savings a student will not be eligible for the Dean's Summer Research Award. Dean's Summer Research Awards are distributed as a credit on a student's fall term bill. The award is up to $1,000. If a student will only be on campus for one semester the following year, the maximum amount the student can receive from a Dean's Summer Research Award is $500. Harvard College Research Program (Student Employment Office)
The Harvard College Research Program supports student-initiated scholarly research and creative endeavors undertaken with faculty guidance. All undergraduates may apply for HCRP funding, regardless of financial need. Seniors are not eligible for summer funding after they’ve graduated, and students on leave are not ordinarily eligible for term-time funding. The HCRP encourages scholarly exploration in the freshman and sophomore years along with the more focused endeavors of juniors and seniors. Preference will be given to students with a demonstrated background or a proven interest in the subject area. This may include previous study or lab work, work experience or extra-curricular activities, or a bibliography developed with faculty guidance. Term time awards fall generally between $500 and $1000 a term, and summer awards are generally between $1000 and $2500. Please apply for other sources of funding if your plans require more than our standard award.
