At the Harvard Graduate School of Education, we believe that education is the foundation of a just society. Education affords children and adults the opportunity to reach their potential as learners and thereby become productive, proud citizens. This truth applies not only to the American classroom but to every nation and society, and especially holds true in the world's largest and most rapidly developing country: The People's Republic of China.
As China continues to grow and develop, and as their culture and economy expand in influence, China's need for high-quality, universal education will only increase. In addition to several burgeoning informal projects with Chinese universities, as well as the Chinese Ministry of Education, the following current projects and initiatives at GSE relate to China.
Dynamic Development Laboratory (top)
The Dynamic Development Laboratory leads an active group of collaborators in the lab who are trying to explain the order behind variations in people's behavior. Through cross-cultural projects, much work has been done in various countries, including China.
WIDE World (top)
WIDE World builds on thirty years of classroom-based research to provide professional development programs that incorporate the essential elements - the DNA - of effective teaching. The program includes online courses, on-site workshops, and individually designed district plans guide teachers, teacher leaders, coaches, and school leaders on coordinated journeys towards wide-scale improvement in classrooms and schools. Through its partnership with the Shanghai Distance Education Group, WIDE World has worked with hundreds of Chinese public school teachers.
