Alan Nawoj, a graduate student in Computer Science at Harvard, Wins Prestigious AFCEA Ralph W. Shrader Scholarship
$3,000 award recognizes "excellence of demonstrated effort at the master's level of study."
Cambridge, Mass. - April 26, 2004 - Alan Nawoj, a graduate student in Computer Science at the Harvard Division of Engineering and Applied Sciences, was recently named as one of the three recipients of the Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association's (AFCEA) Ralph W. Shrader Scholarship.
The scholarship is "awarded to any full-time postgraduate students currently working toward a master's degree in electrical, computer, chemical or aerospace engineering, mathematics, physics, computer science, computer technology, electronics, communications technology, communications engineering, or information management systems."
The selection process is highly competitive; numerous graduate students across the nation apply for only three awards of $3000 each. Applicants are evaluated on a variety of factors and must demonstrate superior academic excellence at the graduate level and show potential for making a major contribution to the field of information technology and communications.
Prior to coming to Harvard, Nawoj attended Cornell University and graduated summa cum laude with a bachelor's degree in electrical and computer engineering in 2001. He is interested in problems covering the areas of wireless sensor networks, computer networks, mobile and embedded computing, distributed systems, wireless technologies, and GPS. His faculty advisor is H.T. Kung, William H. Gates Professor of Computer Science and Electrical Engineering.
Nawoj will receive the award on June 8, 2004 in a ceremony conducted by the Lexington-Concord chapter of the AFCEA.
