Smith and Hammonds Update College Community on House Renewal and the Future of Summer Storage

Faculty of Arts and Sciences Dean Michael D. Smith and Harvard College Dean Evelynn M. Hammonds today updated the undergraduate community on the impact of House renewal on summer storage for future generations of students. Although summer storage will not change for the overwhelming majority of current College students, the renewal of Harvard’s House system will result in improvements that will benefit undergraduates for decades to come.

Shape of things to come

When the Old Quincy Test Project wraps up in the summer of 2013, undergraduates will return to a re-envisioned House that is more comfortable, more modern, and more capable of hosting academic and social activities. Among the many updates and upgrades, though, is one that’s sure to make students stand up — or rather, lie down — and cheer.

A Place of Possibilities

On a blustery night in February, some 60 residents of Cabot House draped plaid sashes across their chests, recited poetry in Scottish brogue, sang “Loch Lomond,” and nibbled haggis, a traditional Scottish meat dish. The occasion was Robert Burns night, a tribute to the 18th-century Scottish bard that was organized by Cabot resident tutor Luke Taylor, who infused the evening with passion for his homeland.

Swing Space for Old Quincy Test Project Announced

Faculty of Arts and Sciences Dean Michael D. Smith and Harvard College Dean Evelynn M. Hammonds today confirmed the locations of the three properties owned and operated by Harvard University Housing (HUH) that will be used to house approximately 180 students from Quincy House during the 2012-2013 academic year when Old Quincy is taken offline to be used as a test project.
