Dear Students and Faculty,
The Undergraduate Council was established a quarter century ago following the report of a committee chaired by Professor John Dowling, now the Gordon and Llura Gund Professor of Neurosciences. Since that time the activities of the Undergraduate Council, and the range of interactions between the Undergraduate Council and the College, and with other parts of the FAS, have grown and changed considerably. Based on a recommendation from Dean of the College David Pilbeam and former president of the Undergraduate Council Ryan Petersen, I am delighted to announce that Professor Dowling has accepted my invitation to chair another committee to review the role and responsibilities of the Undergraduate Council. The committee, comprised of faculty, students, and College administrators, includes two student members nominated by the UC. The committee membership is as follows:
John Dowling, chair
Thomas Dingman, Dean of Freshmen
Judith Kidd, Associate Dean of Student Life and Activities
Sandra Naddaff, House Master of Mather House, Director of the Freshman Seminar Program, Senior Lecturer on Literature
Eric M. Nelson, Assistant Professor, Department of Government
Jamison Hill, Class of 2010
Heidi Kim, Class of 2009
Sussan Lee, Class of 2009
Randall Sarafa, Class of 2009
Prithvi Shankar, Class of 2009
The committee invites your thoughts as they begin their work. I am grateful to this group for their effort, and I look forward to hearing their recommendations.
Sincerely yours,
Mike Smith
Dean of the Faculty
