Department of Philosophy

Philippe Van Parijs holds a D.Phil in Philosophy from Oxford University and a doctorate in the social sciences from the University of Louvain (Belgium), where he has been directing the Hoover Chair in Economic and Social Ethics (http://www.uclouvain.be/en-chaire-hoover.html) since its creation in 1991. He joined Harvard's Philosophy Department as a regular visiting professor in 2004 and teaches in the area of political philosophy in the Spring semester of every other year. His next visit is planned for the Spring of 2010. His research interests include distributive justice, linguistic justice, the future of the welfare state, and the future of democracy.
