American Association for the Advancement of Slavic Studies

The American Association for the Advancement of Slavic Studies (AAASS), a nonprofit, non-political, scholarly society, is the leading private organization in the world dedicated to the advancement of knowledge about the former Soviet Union (including Eurasia) and Eastern and Central Europe. The AAASS supports teaching, research, and publication relating to the peoples and territories within this area.

2008 National Convention

The 40th National Convention of the AAASS will be held at the Philadelphia Marriott Downtown, 1201 Market Street, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, from Thursday, November 20 through Sunday, November 23, 2008. Convention Pre-registration

All convention participants must register and pay the registration fee. You may register for the convention online through the Members Only / Registered Users site (www.aaassmembers.org) or download a pre-registration form. Pre-registration will close on October 10. The Marriott Philadelphia Downtown has sold out. We have obtained additional rooms at the Courtyard Philadelphia Downtown, at 21 N. We will post a link to the hotel so that you can make your reservations online as soon as possible, but in the interim, please call 1-800-320-5744 to make your reservations. Preliminary Program for the 2008 Convention

The preliminary program for the 2008 convention was published in the August issue of NewsNet and is also available in pdf. The final version of the program will be distributed at the convention.

The deadline for changes to the final program has passed (the deadline was September 12). Organizers may continue to make changes to their panels/roundtables through the Members Only / Registered Users section of our web site, but these changes will not be captured in the final program.

If you want your changes put in the program supplement, please e-mail them to Wendy Walker, walker@fas.harvard.edu. The deadline for changes to the program supplement is November 7, 2008.
