Arts Spectrum is a quarterly newsletter published by the Office for the Arts focusing on a wide range of issues, people, and events in the arts both on and off campus. Information on OFA programs and features about student performers and exhibitions appear regularly. It is distributed to all undergraduate houses, other campus sites, and by mail.

University-Wide Task Force to Explore Role of Arts at Harvard: Two short weeks after her inauguration as Harvard’s 26th President, Drew Gilpin Faust announced the appointment of a task force to examine the place of the arts across Harvard’s schools. Jazz Saxophonist Joshua Redman '91 to be Awarded 2008 Harvard Arts Medal: Kicking off the ARTS FIRST festivities, Joshua Redman ’91— Grammy nominated saxophonist, recording artist and jazz bandleader—will receive the 2008 Harvard Arts Medal on Thursday, May 1, 2008. President Drew Gilpin Faust will present the medal as part of an event hosted by the Learning from Performers Program at 5pm in the New College Theatre. Redman will be the 14th distinguished Harvard or Radcliffe alum or faculty member to receive this accolade for excellence in the arts and contributions to education and the public good through arts. Revel in the Presence of Benny Golson: For the 31st year the Office for the Arts will collaborate with the Harvard Jazz Bands to honor distinguished artists in jazz. In the spring semester composer/saxophonist Benny Golson will be celebrated with “Along Came Benny” (an artist residency named after his famed composition “Along Came Betty”). (Read more...)
