Budgeting for Proposals and Awards Workbook (PDF): The workbook that goes along with the Budgeting for Sponsored Proposals and Awards workshop, designed to help users with the Excel Budget Template. Also includes information about sponsored project costs (direct and indirect), and recommended practices for proposals, budgets, and budget justifications.
NSF Proposal Tasks Template: A modifiable excel spreadsheet to use for NSF proposal preparation in conjunction with the Dean's Approval Form.
Faculty Effort: Suggestions for Proposal Narratives
Effort Commitments (Faculty and Non): Includes agency specific information on how to commit effort for NSF, NIH, NASA, DoE, DoD, and others.
Budget Template (Excel): This Excel spreadsheet contains commonly used expense types and fringe and overhead rate formulas pro-rated across certain dates in the current 5 year period. It is customizable for use with any expense type and any budget period. Use this template at the proposal stage to check proposal budgets. Email it to proposal reviewers. Save it on your computer to make revised budgets and uploads to the general ledger easier for you if the project is selected for funding.
Budget Justification Job Aid (Word): Discussions and examples of what should be in a budget justification. This is set up in NSF format and can be adapted as necessary.
Pre-Award Process Flow Chart (PDF): Diagrams Harvard proposal preparation and review process. Applicable to other types of requests to sponsors (extensions, rebudgeting, etc.) also.
