The 2012 Ecole normale supérieure - Harvard University Exchange Program

A sunny break near the Charles River...
Thirteen graduate students and three faculty members from the Ecole normale supérieur in Paris landed on our doorstep last April, and were joined by graduate students and faculty members in the History of Science Department in an eight-day program of site-visits and related lectures and colloquia. The exchange program was developed in collaboration by Anne Harrington, Professor of the History of Science, Harvard University, and Claude Debru, Professor of philosophy of science, Ecole normale supérieure.
Sites in the program included the William James Archive at Houghton Library and the James-Munsterberg Psychological Laboratory in Emerson Hall; the Peabody Essex Museum in Salem; the Ether Dome at Massachusetts General Hospital and the Warren Anatomical Museum at Countway Library; the Collection of Historic Scientific Instruments; the Harvard Museum of Natural History; and the MIT Museum.
This year the ENS students have taken the lead in creating a blog to document their experiences in the program: http://www.whataboutscience.com/ens-harvard/.
The program's first iteration was in January 2011, when about ten graduate students in the History of Science (many of whom participated in this year's program, as well) traveled to Paris. One of last year's activities involved students forming international teams that each produced a short video of the themes in the History of Science that they explored in Paris. Some of these videos are available online:
