Harvard China Student Internship Program
Summer 2013

Information and Application

2013 Program Overview: The Harvard China Fund will once again offer 45 internship positions, 35 corporate and 10 NGO / NPO, for summer 2013. The 10-week program, managed by Harvard China Fund staff in Shanghai and Cambridge, is open to returning Harvard College undergraduates.

Internship Period: Saturday, June 8 to Friday, August 16, 2013

Eligibility: Returning undergraduates from all concentrations are eligible to apply. Chinese language is not required to apply, but most of the internship positions require some knowledge of oral and written Chinese. Students must have excellent written, communication, and analytical skills. Students must be able to commit to the entire 10-week program.

Cost: Once selected, interns will be asked to pay a $2,500 program fee. Many host companies will cover airfare, housing, and provide a small, variable stipend, but students may be placed in a host organization that does not offer full financial support. In general, NGO/NPO organizations do not provide financial support. Some commercial organizations provide partial financial support. Therefore, HCF recommends that all eligible students apply for a grant to cover the full program fee and other costs from the Office of Career Services' summer funding for Harvard-run summer international programs: http://www.ocs.fas.harvard.edu/students/SIE_HRP.htm. Please use this sample budget:

Program fee - $2,500
Airfare - $1,800
Housing - $2,200
TOTAL - $6,500

Internship Sites: Internship placements will be concentrated in Beijing, Shanghai, Changsha, Shenzhen, Hong Kong and Taiwan. Interns will work in leading multinational and Chinese companies in various industries. While every effort is made to ensure that students have a satisfying experience consistent with their interests, there is no guarantee that placements can be made with specific companies or in specific cities.
