Princeton-Harvard China in the World Program

The Princeton-Harvard China in the World Program (PHCWP) was launched in 2005. The purpose is to train scholars to integrate the advanced study of China’s foreign relations into the field of international relations (IR) by bringing together exceptional young scholars from broader fields such as comparative foreign policy, security studies, and international relations theory.

Among the institutions which helped to found this new program were: at Princeton University, the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs East Asian Studies Program; the Institute for International and Regional Studies; at Harvard University, the Center for International Affairs; the Olin Institute for Strategic Studies; and the Fairbank Center for Chinese Studies.

The postdoctoral fellowships offered provide an opportunity for scholars to concentrate on their research on China’s international relations as well as to build a stronger sense of community among scholars in the field. Fellows are expected to be in residence at either Harvard or Princeton, and to participate in seminars and conferences on topics related to their scholarly interests.
