Archives of the Spanish Government of West Florida: A Series of 18 Bound Volumes of Written Documents Mostly in the Spanish Language, deposited in the Record Room of the 19th Judicial District Court, Baton Rouge, La. This is a little-used collection of probate records, wills, estate inventories, trial records, letters, and personal notes from the 1785 - 1819 period of Spanish West Florida. The records contain a great deal of information of female slaves, and extensive records of a woman named Marie Decoux, who used her husbands estate (while he was still living) to amass one of the more powerful plantation businesses on the Louisiana borderlands. This is a rich archives of untapped resources in gender history.
