Events and seminars

Each year, the Asia Center reviews proposals for funding from over two hundred students, student organizations, and faculty members. Coordination among the various international research centers and departments around the university ensures that the summer travel grants program covers as many students as possible. The Asia Center also offers funding opportunities for summer language study abroad as part of its grants program.

In partnership with the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, the Asia Center administers the Foreign Language and Area Studies (FLAS) Fellowships. These awards provide support to students of Asia whose program of study integrates the mastery of a modern Asian language. Fellowships provide support for summer language training as well as academic year coursework and dissertation research. Funding for FLAS Fellowships is provided by the U.S. Department of Education under Title  VI.

The Asia Center has provided grants for faculty research projects since its inception. Funding has promoted scholarly collaboration on Asia-related projects among different departments and schools at Harvard, with the aim of encouraging projects which are comparative in nature, particularly those involving more than one Asian country or those involving more than one faculty of the University.
