The American Association for the Advancement of Slavic Studies (AAASS), a nonprofit, non-political, scholarly society, is the leading private organization in the world dedicated to the advancement of knowledge about the former Soviet Union (including Eurasia) and Eastern and Central Europe. The AAASS supports teaching, research, and publication relating to the peoples and territories within this area.
2008 National Convention
The 40th National Convention of the AAASS will be held at the Philadelphia Marriott Downtown, 1201 Market Street, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, from Thursday, November 20 through Sunday, November 23, 2008.
The Registration Desk will open on Thurday morning at 9:00 a.m. Panel Sessions will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday afternoon. The last session on Sunday will begin at 10:15 a.m. and end at 12:15 p.m.
The AAASS special group rate for convention participants is $160 per night for a single or double room. To make a reservation, please click on the link to the reservation page for the Philadelphia Marriott, that will take you to the property's home page with the code necessary to get the group rate rooms already entered in the appropriate field. All you need to do is enter your arrival date to begin the reservation process.
Please note that rooms set aside for graduate students at a special rate of $99 per night are sold out.
All convention participants must register and pay the registration fee. You may register for the convention online through the Members Only / Registered Users site (www.aaassmembers.org) or download a pre-registration form. Please remember to pre-register by the early deadline to obtain the lowest registration rate. The registration fees will rise after August 15, 2008.
The preliminary program for the 2008 convention will be published in the August issue of NewsNet and available online as well. The final version of the program will be distributed at the convention. Changes for the final program must be received by Friday, September 12, 2008.
Organizations and companies interested in placing an ad in the 2008 AAASS National Convention Program should download and fill out the Contract for Advertising Space and return it to Wendy Walker, AAASS Convention Coordinator. Exhibiting kits for for organizations and companies interested in purchasing a booth in the AAASS Convention Exhibit Hall will be sent out shortly.
